Advocacy & Justice

Westminster is a member of ISAAC
Interfaith Strategy for Advocacy and Action in the Community is
a network of congregations and others working together to build a more just community in the greater Kalamazoo area.

PEACEMAKING is important to us!

One way we express this is by awarding the Westminster Peace Prize each October with our congregational portion of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Offering.
We are proud to be an EARTH CARE CONGREGATION
             of the Presbyterian Church USA

The goal of the Earth Care Congregations program is to inspire churches to care for God’s earth in a holistic way,  through integrating earth care into all of church life.

Westminster has been certified as an Earth Care Congregation since 2013.

Connecting Faith, Sustainability And Justice

Michigan Interfaith Power & Light’s mission is to inspire and equip people of faith to exercise stewardship of and love for all Creation.  They offer practical ways to put faith into action by promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other sustainable practices that lead to a cleaner, healthier, and more just world.  They work to help Michigan’s faith communities  become leaders in the effort to address climate change and environmental degradation.   Westminster is a member of Michigan Interfaith Power and Light.

Hope for Creation

Hope for Creation, the Southwest MI regional chapter of Michigan Interfaith Power and Light, is a grassroots inter-religious group working to encourage and support faith-based action on climate change in greater Kalamazoo.

Participating in Hope for Creation connects our congregation with others in our community working locally on issues related to climate change, such as energy conservation, recycling, land use, and plant-based eating.

SHARE has a dual mission of educating the community on the importance of our region's African American heritage and fostering connections and conversations on race and providing awareness of racism and the broad societal benefits of its elimination.  SHARE sponsors an annual Summit on Racism.

Westminster is a Bread for the World Covenant Congregation.
We participate each year in the Bread for the World Offering of Letters.

We participate in the Presbyterian Coffee Project and enjoy Fair Trade coffee and tea from Equal Exchange at our fellowship time following worship each Sunday.

Fair Trade Coffee and other Fair Trade food items are available for purchase at church.
